Well I've decided to go back to Perth Digital, As Arrow Recruitment were taking too long to get me into the PCB packing job. I know I said that I was having some problems with the job, IE, they didn't pay me at all so I would be left with no money for the week.

I'm not doing laptops, which is good, I'm doing LCDs, which is much better - in my humble opinion.

As for the PCB packing job, I wish it would hurry up, As I am tired of it getting constantly delayed all the time. I needed a job I could do NOW - which is why I went back to Perth Digital...

Talking about A New Job...

Well it seems that the position should be available some time next week. According to Action Recruitment, the companies HR officer told them that next week would be the most likely start time. My original estimate was off by a bit I see

A New Job...

Seems that sometime in the next two weeks I'll have another job. I am one of 200 people that have applied for this particular role. Only 50 have a chance of getting through, And according to my Job Network Member, I am number 1, muhahaha.

The job involves the assembling and packing of PCB's, not my first choice of role, I prefer Laptop Repair, It isn't always so repetative...

Jokes aside, things are looking up. More information to come.

The Work trial Diaries #1

Dear readers, it is time to start another work Trial, with a company in North Perth. The diary and subsequent ones will discuss it.

Ok. I was only told I'd be at an interview, but it turned into a work trial, meaning that I have to do it, but I don't think I can continue this though...

It's getting hard, I was enjoying it for a while, but the work just never ends and there's no appreciation whatsoever, it just makes me feel... unwanted, used...

Indeed, I suspect I am being used by the company to get money from the Government, IF they employ me... And the government agency (PVS Workfind, who got the job on my behalf - they also told me crap all about it) I'm with is using me too, for what purposes? I do not know.

I'm going to have to do something about this...

A new year, a new outlook

A new year and a new outlook...

My new years resolution was to finally get a job that I am actually qualified for. I have tried to get a job for the last 7 years to no avail. No one was willing to take me on. But I am willing to try harder, because I damn want to get a job!

I am tired of no money. I want a job and I'm going to do my best to get one.

I aim to look for at least 20 jobs a fortnight as I did last year, so that I can get a job.

TAFE Work and other things

Looks like I have some more work to do. Some more assignments have come in, I need to get on top of the work as soon as possible. I will attempt to get the books I need to complete these assignments at the next available pay day.

I need the following books;

IT Essentials
Network Essentials

The above books should be available from the bookshop at TAFE or at Boffins in the city. They are about $59 each... Not cheap I know... But cheap compared to one of the books I needed for the Cert 4 I did in early 2006.

I have also applied for the Certificate IV in Information Technology (Programming) though I'll change it if I don't finish the course I am currently studying again...

My dream is to work in the IT industry, in lesser roles, working my way up to greater roles. I also have a plan to run my own business, my current freelance programming thing I cannot really call a business, though I treat it like one...

CT08 - Certificate III in Information Technology (Network Administration)

On the 23rd of July I started a new TAFE course, CT08 - Certificate III in Information Technology (Network Administration) , Look it up at http://www.tafe.wa.edu.au/ I did a similar course a while back... I am doing the course again because I feel that I didn't do it properly last time.

I am endeavouring to complete the course this time. I will continue to keep trying till I finish the course. Then I will go back and try the programming course one more time and so on till I can get into university.

While that's all well and good, I've lost most of my old work so I have to start it all over again. Anyhoo, I have to go, Till next time peeps!

Certificate III Info Tech Enrollment Complete!

My enrollment in the certificate III (CT08 - CERTIFICATE III in INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (NETWORK ADMINISTRATION)) IT course that I wanted to do is now complete, I still have to pay off some of the fees though. I have 4 weeks in which to do this, that is fine.

First day is the 23rd July 2007, It's a monday (Why must I always start on monday?)

Anyhoo, I'll stay safe, you do so as well o reader of my blog :)

Work Experience Report

The Work Experience Experience

As part of the Access Apprenticeships course that is hosted by Centacare, I was required to attend 1 week of work experience, I rang several Computer Hardware stores in my area before I chose to commence a work experience placement at Arrow Computers in Osborne Park in the production section.

The production section is where all the assembling, Troubleshooting, Testing and Packing PC’s takes place, here I added the above skills to the skills that were gained on completion of the previous Cert 2 and 3 was done 2 years ago.

The start time was 9:00, I would arrive at Arrow Computers and my major task was to help out the production Manager (Joy) in the Production Area; Assembling, Troubleshooting, Testing, Packing and in some cases Repacking computers. Another thing that was done was some shipping on the final day in which I helped place some pre-prepared computers into Joy’s van.

An overview of each task completed and what I learned;

Assembling
- Disassembling a computer case by removing both side panels, inserting the correct screws and inserting the motherboard – making sure the screws are properly tightened.
- Inserting the DVD Burner, making sure the faceplate of the DVD Burner was level with the front of the PC. Making sure to screw it in so that it doesn’t come loose.
- Inserting a modem and/or a Graphics Card into a Free motherboard PCI slot.
- Inserting a hard drive with a copy of Windows XP Pro or Home, Windows Vista Home Basic or Premium preinstalled on it. Making sure to screw it in so that it doesn’t come loose.
- For “Special” Orders a USB Card reader and/or Floppy Disk Drive would be added at this point.
- Inserting the various cables into their correct positions on the motherboard, DVD Burner, Hard Drive, etc.
- Placing the side panels back on the computers in prep for packing.
- Placing adhesive stickers to the front (Arrow Computers Logo and Intel Inside Logo), top (Arrow Computers contact details) and back (Serial number) of the case.
Troubleshooting
- Replacing a faulty DVD Burner with another.
- If a Hard Drive had a faulty Windows “Image ” (ie. One that for some reason couldn’t play DVD’s, or when you tried to play Solitaire it complained of missing files) I would delete the copy and have the Hard Drive re-imaged with a new Image.
Testing
- Making sure the Floppy Disk Drive was detected properly by the computers BIOS .
- Making sure the Hard Drives actually had a copy of windows.
- Making sure the modem and/or graphics card(s) work.
- Making sure the integrated network/graphics card(s) work.
- Making sure the integrated sound card works.
- Making sure the included DVD Player can actually play a DVD and/or burn a DVD .
Packing
- Placing a Genuine Microsoft Windows Software Sticker on the top of the computer case.
- Cleaning the computer case by attempting to remove fingerprints with some cleaning fluid and removing scratches with a thick black texta.
- Placing a protective plastic bag around the computer case.
- Placing two polystyrene foam sections. One on the top of the computer and one at the base.
- Placing the computer carefully into a box (with difficulty in some cases ) and sealing the box with some clear packing tape.
- Placing a barcode on the top of the box for later reading via a barcode scanner as well as the windows version DVD, PC in formation and invoice that is appropriate for that box.
- Placing the box into a shipping box with an identical barcode and placing peripherals in, such as; Mouse, Keyboard, A copy of the Windows Software as well as Driver Software for each of the components inside the PC, A copy of the customers invoice and some information on their purchase.
- This box would then be taped up with an information leaflet on the front explaining what’s in the machine and some possible upgrade options for the machine.

The exact start and finish times are 9:00 – 5:30, though Joy would often let me go early if there wasn’t many computers needing to be assembled or packed on that day.

I have been told (By Greg) that if any jobs come up in the stores he will keep my phone number on file and will give me a call when any jobs come up. Joy has stated that I should ring back in a weeks time as apparently Arrow Computers needs more people on Mondays than any other day of the week.

I have contacted the organisations Personnel team via email to see if they had any traineeships on offer, and as yet (16/04/2007) I have received no response from them. If I don’t receive a response by the end of the first week of may the next course of action would be to try for a Certificate 3 again in Information Technology (Network Administration) at the local TAFEWA College near me (Balga) as the next semester enrolments start on the 7th May 2007.
